Mgt503 Assignment 1 Solution Spring 2022: This assignment aims to familiarize students with the concept of Job design and its different approaches. It will help students redesign a certain job while working in an organization to improve their satisfaction and motivation towards work.

Premise: DESCON Engineering Ltd. is a leading organization working as an engineering consultant management organization since 1973. The Organization faces employee turnover despite being a  good performer in the market. Managers observe dissatisfaction and demonization among employees, which are determined by several factors. Monotonous and repetitive tasks, reduced work flexibility, less challenging work, and reduced creativity and innovation can make the daily tasks boring for employees. Employees who are happy and engaged are those who stay with the organization. Thus,  managers want to motivate individuals on the job to be on a continual learning path instead of working in the same pattern every day. Managers should design jobs deliberately and thoughtfully to reflect the demands of changing environments, which in turn produce stimulating and interesting work and adds variety, challenge, and depth to the employee’s daily routine.

Point of Discussion: In view of the above scenario, DESCON Engineering Ltd. needs to reduce the turnover of employees by working on different techniques. Suggest three approaches to employee job design in a way that they feel more satisfied, motivated, and responsible in their daily tasks.

As you know that Post Mid-Term semester activities have started and the load shedding problem is also prevailing in our country. Keeping in view the fact, you all are advised to post your activities as early as possible without waiting for the due date. Job enlargement: Job enlargement is a job design technique wherein there is an increase in the number of tasks associated with a certain job. Job enlargement is a horizontal restructuring method that aims to increase in workforce flexibility and at the same time reduce monotony that may creep up over a period of time. By combining tasks, employers increase the interest and engagement in work among staff. Using a job enlargement model increases the number of duties assigned to an individual, and this method gradually redefines the job by also increasing employee responsibilities and expectations.

Job Rotation: Job Rotation is a management approach where employees are shifted between two or more assignments or jobs at regular intervals of time in order to expose them to all verticals of an organization. Job rotation is a pre-planned approach to test the employee’s skills and competencies in order to place him or her in the right place. Job rotation reduces the monotony of the job and gives them a wider experience and helps them gain more insights. Job rotation is a well-planned practice to reduce the boredom of doing the same type of job every day and explore the hidden potential of an employee. The process serves the purpose of both the management and the employees. It helps management in discovering the talent of employees and determining what he or she is best at.

Job Enrichment: Job enrichment means enhancing individual jobs to make them more rewarding and inspiring. Job enrichment expands the range of tasks that you perform and the skills that you can develop. This makes for more stimulating and interesting work and adds variety, challenge, and depth to your daily routine. Job enrichment increases job satisfaction. Employees should derive satisfaction from their jobs. When assigned challenging tasks, employees have an opportunity to improve their skills. Skilled and experienced employees are likely to be promoted.
